The headliner is Connor Bedard, the center from the Regina Pats of the Western Hockey League who dominated while leading Canada to the gold medal at the recent World Junior Championships. Bedard is one of 18 players from the WHL selected for the game, with 15 coming from the Ontario Hockey League and seven from the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League. Players were selected through a survey of the 32 NHL clubs and all 40 players are on the mid-term list released by NHL Central Scouting on Jan. 13.

As well as the top-ranked skater in North America in Bedard, the top-ranked goalie will be on hand. Carson Bjarnason of the WHL’s Brandon Wheat Kings is scheduled to play, along with three other top-10 skaters: Brayden Yager of the WHL’s Moose Jaw Warriors, Zach Benson of the WHL’s Winnipeg Ice and Colby Barlow of the OHL’s Owen Sound Attack.

Played annually since 1992, the game entered a partnership with the NHL in 1996. Since then, 15 participants in the Top Prospects Game have subsequently gone No. 1 in the NHL draft, most recently Alexis Lafreniere to the New York Rangers in 2020.
