For the first time since 2019, college hockey is back in Belfast, Northern Ireland with the return of the Friendship Four. Launched in 2015, the event has featured four programs from the northeast. Dartmouth (1-4-1) is making its first appearance at SSE Arena Belfast on Friday when it faces No. 4 Quinnipiac (9-1-2) in the first semifinal. It’s the second appearance in the tournament for the Bobcats, who were runners-up in 2016. Qunnipiac comes in with seven consecutive wins, while the Big Green have lost two games in a row. Dartmouth hasn’t made an NCAA tournament appearance since 1980, while the Bobcats have played in the last three.

The Big Green fell to 1-3-1 in ECAC Hockey play on Saturday with a 2-1 loss at Rensselaer. Tucker McRae gave Dartmouth a 1-0 lead midway through the second period, but a goal with 28.1 seconds remaining in regulation won it for the Engineers. Luke Haynes has five goals this season for the Big Green, who are in their second season under coach Reid Cashman.
Quinnipiac improved to 6-0-0 in ECAC Hockey with a sweep last weekend of visiting Princeton. The Bobcats picked up a 4-1 win on Saturday night. Four different players scored and Yaniv Perets made 30 saves, losing his shutout bid with 2:23 remaining. Collin Graf and Jacob Quillan share the team lead with six goals this season, while Perets has a 1.82 goals against average and three shutouts. Coach Rand Pecknold is in his 29th season at the school.
The series between the schools dates back to 2005 and Quinnipiac holds a 23-10-3 advantage. The Bobcats are unbeaten in the last five meetings, going 4-0-1.
