Designed by William Francis Bell, the South Course at Torrey Pines in San Diego opened in 1957 and has hosted what is now the Farmers Insurance Open since 1968. The course plays 7,802 yards and par 72 and is the longest course played in a regular PGA Tour event. The longest hole is the par-five 13th at 621 yards, with the 15th the longest par-four at 517 yards.

Rahm won the Farmers in 2017 by three strokes over Charles Howell III and Pan Cheng-tsung. Other former champions in the field include Justin Rose (2019), Jason Day (2015 and 2018), Scott Stallings (2014), Ben Crane (2010) and Nick Watney (2009).

Tiger Woods has won the event a record seven times and Phil Mickelson is a three-time winner in his hometown. Since the move to Torrey Pines in 1968, J.C. Snead, Tom Watson, Steve Pate and Brandt Snedeker join Day on the list of two-time champions.
