Time is getting short for the Milwaukee Brewers (71-65), who have lost five of their last seven and are virtually out of the National League Central race. On Thursday, Milwaukee hosts the San Francisco Giants (65-70) to make up a pair of games.

The Brewers have fallen 9.5 games behind St. Louis in the NL Central and are now four back of Philadelphia and San Diego for the final two Wild Card positions. San Francisco has dropped two in a row after winning four straight and will head to Chicago to face the Cubs on Friday.

San Francisco will start lefty Scott Alexander in Game 1. It will be his first start since 2018 and in five appearances, Alexander has allowed a run on three hits with six strikeouts in 5.1 innings. The Giants have not named a Game 2 starter.
