With five consecutive losses and just one win in their last 10 games, the New York Islanders come into Wednesday’s game against Ottawa trailing Washington for the eighth and final playoff spot in the Eastern Conference. It is a spot it held less than three weeks ago. Ottawa hopes to avoid its first three-game losing streak of 2023 and is in need of an offensive punch. The Senators have scored two goals or less five of their last seven games. In their first meeting back on Nov. 12, the Islanders netted a pair of third period goals, including a power play goal from Jean-Gabriel Pageau and an empty netter from Brock Nelson to secure a 4-2 road win.
