The Black Bears bounced back from their first America East loss with a victory at Binghamton on Saturday. Maine trailed entering the fourth quarter, but went up for good on Jaycie Christopher’s three-pointer with 3:02 remaining en route to a 50-46 win. Smith finished with 17 points, 15 rebounds and four steals.
On Sunday, UMass Lowell — averaging just 53.5 points a game this season — got hot while earning its first conference victory of the season, a 76-63 win at Bryant. Ivory Finley scored 18 points, Jallena Sanchez added 17 points, eight assists and seven rebounds, while Jaini Edmonds tossed in 16 points.
Since the River Hawks made the jump to Division I in 2013, the rivalry with Maine has been lopsided. The Black Bears are 18-2, including a 70-63 overtime win at home on Jan. 4. Smith scored 18 of her 30 points in the fourth quarter and overtime to lead Maine in a come-from-behind win. Finley paced UMass Lowell with 14 points.
