The Philadelphia Phillies and Washington Nationals are on very different trajectories right now. It didn’t feel that way at the beginning of the season and certainly not after the Nationals won the World Series not even three years ago. But now, Washington traded its generational talent, Juan Soto, along with Josh Bell while the Phillies are tied for the third wild-card spot going into Saturday’s game. The Phillies have won three in a row and the first two games of this series while the Nats look to break a three-game losing streak.

The Phillies dominated game two as the night was highlighted by a great start from Kyle Gibson. He threw six perfect innings and only gave up one run over eight innings on the way to the 7-2 Phillies win. The Phillies got off to a quick start on offense as well, scoring four in the first and Kyle Schwarber hit another homer to extend his MLB lead to 34.

The Phillies will go for the series victory today by starting Ranger Suarez who is 7-5 with a 3.60 ERA. The Nationals will start Patrick Corbin, who is looking for a bit of relief on the mound. He is 4-15 with a 6.57 ERA.

Can the Nationals defy the odds and get back in this series?
