The Boston Red Sox enter play Wednesday with a one-game lead over the Tampa Bay Rays in the American League East. The Toronto Blue Jays and New York Yankees are tied for third place, seven games back.

If Red Sox chief baseball officer Chaim Bloom looks to make upgrades before the July 30 trade deadline, former New York Mets general manager Steve Phillips told MLB Network Radio on SiriusXM Boston could make a run at Anthony Rizzo, the three-time All-Star first baseman for the Chicago Cubs.

“Rizzo could be a real difference-maker for a lot of teams because his impact is not only his production with the bat, it’s his production with the glove and his experience and leadership of hitting in big moments, and a guy who stays calm in those big at-bats. Rizzo to the Red Sox, Rizzo to the Brewers, sure feels like (a) potential good fit.”
