The overall UI is extremely cool and simple. Using the top tab, you can see the current number of subscribers and the client website.
I personally feel Moosend has the simplest dashboard among all email marketing services I’ve used so far. It definitely gives stiff competition to Mailerlite. And it’s far easier to navigate than MailChimp.
To the left lies the menu containing mailing lists, campaign starters, automation, etc. The color scheme is pleasing, the UI is clutter-free and easily navigable.
As soon as one logs in, Moosend directs them to a four-step setup process.
This involves helping you set up your first subscriber list and send out your first campaign. Once this is complete, the dashboard displays the current and upcoming campaigns, mailing lists, and report analytics.
The performance of the latest campaign is displayed using infographics.
You can manage more domains using a single Moosend account by adding them as clients.
You can create campaigns anytime from the campaign section or click the “New Campaign” button on top. Moosend allows the following campaign types:
This can be done using an HTML Editor or by using a plain text editor. The HTML Editor automatically generates a plain text version as well.
Moosend offers various FAQs at every stage. As soon as you launch any campaign, FAQs will at the bottom direct you through using the editor. Even those without prior graphic experience will find the editor easy to use.
Moosend does not overwhelm users with too many options. All buttons are neatly structured and conceal advanced features for those who need them. There are also helpful pop-ups at various stages.
A/B Split Campaign
Moosend allows A/B Testing campaigns even in its free version.
You can select multiple mailing lists. However, there is no option of excluding any specific members from the list.
Once you have created the layout and template, you can choose the percentage of people you want to send options A, B, and the winning entry. Drag the slider to the appropriate percentage.
Repeatable HTML Campaign
This is similar to an RSS campaign, except that it comes with a repeat-sending setup. You can link the body of the newsletter to a URL. As the URL updates, so does the mail body. You can customize the schedule as per your need or put a halt to it.
This is a newsletter that offers a blog or webpage in the form of an email. You can send them again and again.
However, for a regular schedule, you can shift to the above option.
Moosend tracks campaign performances by using Google Analytics. You can send out a test email to specific IDs. There is also a Spam and Delivery Test for the A/B Testing campaign. The delivery test is similar to sending a test email.
The spam test checks whether the recipient’s ISP identifies the mail as spam or not.
With the spam report, you can remove elements that cause it to get blacklisted. You can export existing campaigns from your computer, via a URL or by pasting its HTML code.
Moosend offers an extremely easy-to-use newsletter editor.
It is essentially a drag-and-drop editor though you can choose to code certain parts of it. You can add anything from images, buttons, texts to social media links, and embedded videos. The Moosend template library offers over 40 different and unique templates.
To the left, they are segregated based on categories like real estate, art, booking, etc.
All newsletters can be customized separately for a desktop and mobile version.
You can create a signup or subscription form using the editor and then embed it on your domain or landing page. Moosend offers the following features for lead generation:
- Click-to-show Forms – These include forms that pop up on clicking or hovering.
- Modal Pop-up – Pop-up forms that appear once you open a new page or scroll a specific length.
- Inline Forms – These are usually present towards the end and are a part of the webpage itself.
- Floating Bars – To add at the top or the bottom of your webpage.
- Full Page Form – A regular, old full-page signup form/
With the Landing Pages WordPress Plugin, you can host a Moosend configured form on WordPress without getting any coding involved. This is a recent feature and certainly a great one.
As soon as you sign in, Moosend automatically creates two mailing lists for you – One for the client website and first-time subscribers.
After this, you can create unlimited mailing lists that. You can look up users using their labels, names, or IDs.
Moosend offers customer segmentation as well.
You can create custom fields, and based on the satisfaction of these conditions, Moosend will segregate them. Up to 20 different segmentation options can be added.
The general segmentation tools are based on – the activity of the contact (responsiveness to emails, etc.), features of their contact information (do they have a Gmail ID? are they based in Texas?), and the time of their joining (first-time subscribers, users joined in 2019, etc.).
Moosend’s strongest feature is its marketing automation tool. With this, you can target a specific customer segment and create an entire drip campaign.
Moosend offers 18 different types, including birthday emails, format cart reminders, anniversary emails, reminders for repeat buying, loyalty sequences, and more. You might not realize this at first, but these automation workflows are crucial for many marketers. No other email marketing services offer these features at the price Moosend does.
Moosend offers an extremely intuitive and visual workplace where you can create the workflow. You can create a flowchart, add appropriate conditions and tags. Moosend allows the following control steps:
- Split Flow – You can divert the customers to two directions based on a percentage—Eg: 25% towards strategy 1 and 75% towards strategy 2.
- Filter by Weather – You can select to send the mail if there is fog/ snow/ clear skies, etc.
- If/ Else Conditions – Example: If the client has made a recent purchase, then divert here, else do not divert.
- Wait – Can add a waiting time period.
Actions at different stages include:
- Sending a campaign email
- Sending a message to slack
- Add to a specific list
All in all, these triggers allow one to create complex campaigns. I wish the workspace was a bit bigger and allowed for more free-scrolling (Eg: Miro).
However, you can choose to keep the tasks minimized which certainly makes space look less cluttered.
It also allows you to send product recommendations using advance tracking for e-commerce and Upsell or Cross-sell products from your store. A feature found in mostly e-commerce drip marketing systems.
Moosend clearly places a lot of importance on visual data, and this is clear from the reports and analytics.
The Reports tab shows various metrics like the most clicked emails, most used devices, most used browsers, and so on. With the Deliverability report, you can check the user ISPs, unsubscribers, and their reasons, domains, and IPs.
Data like the number of bounce rates, clicks per mail, etc., are essential to understanding and deciding future campaigns. All reports are displayed in the form of bar graphs or pie charts. Aesthetically, they are attractive and cover all the bases.
Moosend has over 200 integrations available, so you can shift to the platform from basically anything.
While importing contacts from Google Contacts or Salesforce, you can even specify the subscriber list you want to import them in.
That saves a step. Some of the most-used integrations include Zapier, MailChimp Synchronizer, Segment, WordPress, Drupal, and ReportGarden.
Moosend collects defined user data and assigns some cloud storage space for it depending on your plan. For adding new customers to your mailing list, you can either:
- Enter their data via manual entry into the log. While adding data, Moosend allows only the regular fields: name, email, etc. However, you can add as many custom fields as you want.
- Integrate existing contacts from Google Contacts.
- Upload a spreadsheet with the relevant data.
- From Moosend’s open API. You can also transfer this data to other apps.
- From sign-up forms integrated into landing pages or elsewhere.
The Pro Plan and above allow phone support. However, customer support is only available 5 days a week during work hours. Their site offers live chat and a help center.
I’ve used the customer support of multiple email marketing services. And Moosend is one of the best from my personal experience.
The support team is pretty knowledgeable, and the way they talk, they seem enthusiastic.
My queries through live chat were answered in under 2 minutes. Certainly a little slower than GetResponse, but fast enough.
The onboarding team of Moosend is super helpful too.
The free plan requires no credit card information and does not have any time limit.
You can use the free plan for managing up to 1000 subscribers. Along with this, you can send out an unlimited number of emails, create sign-up forms, subscriber lists, access reports and analytics, and more. However, it does not allow collaboration and landing page configuration.
The Pro Plan costs 8 USD per month and can be used by up to 5 members. It also allows Direct SMTP access and customer support via phone.
Finally, the Enterprise Plan is a customized plan based on your requirements.
If you don’t send emails often or don’t wish to pay every month that you don’t use Moosend to send emails, you can opt for credits.
Moosend allows you to purchase one-time-use credits. Each credit is worth one email. For example, if you have 1,000 subscribers and send an email to all of them, you’ll use 1000 credits.
Using the credit system, you won’t have to pay monthly fees to Moosend and pay only for the emails you send. I would have loved this kind of payment plan when I started email marketing. It cuts the recurring costs, which is so much when you are a beginner.
Branding and Domains
Moosend allows the configuration of your domain and lading pages. As stated, depending on the plan, you can add multiple domain pages for various businesses. With the new WordPress plugin, you can seamlessly incorporate signup forms onto your landing page.
Making sure that the customer’s ISP whitelists your company’s emails are essential. Otherwise, your newsletter could end up in the spam box to never see daylight again. However, with Direct SMTP, you can bypass this issue.
With this feature, you can send a direct email to the customer that does not get caught by the ISP. Moosend’s STMP tool is well equipped to deal with anti-spam filters and queuing.
Moosend generates an API key for each client.
In case of a breach, you can request another one. With an API key, software developers can connect directly to the Moosend database.
Currently, the features in the Moosend web API include only managing campaign lists. That is, you can add or remove subscribers and segments, update their information, etc.
Using the API key, you can connect and transfer the data from Moosend to custom apps.
A Suppression list is essentially a group of “blocked” contacts with whom you do not want to interact with.
Moosend allows importing suppression lists via Goggle contacts, excel, or simply by pasting. You can create a subscriber list with these contacts in them. And then choose batch actions to perform.
Conclusion: Is Moosend Right For You?
At just 8 USD per month, the Pro Plan by Moosend is a downright steal! Not only does it have an amazing automation tool, but the reports and tracking offer all types of metrics that one might need. The various triggers for automation make it possible to work out intricate steps.
The drag-and-drop email editor is beginner-friendly. However, the number of newsletter templates provided is a bit on the lower end; however, the customizations make it possible to create extremely creative ones.
The free plan also includes A/B Testing, which is generally not seen in other email marketing tools’ free plans. As for the dashboard, I found it to be very clean and precise. There is no overwhelming information.
There are FAQs and help at just the right places.
The creation and segregation of lists also allow a lot of customizable features.
Any e-commerce owner or affiliate marketer will be able to appreciate the pros of the various filters provided. Overall, Moosend offers a pretty good deal and is certainly worth the money spent!
