Nippon Ichi Software, the popular developer and publisher from Japan, has revealed that it will celebrate its 30th anniversary with a big livestream. The event will feature announcements for both new games and merch, and is scheduled for January 30th, 2023, at 10 AM pacific time. Here’s the full tweet from an official NIS feed:
NIS is best known for their flagship series Disgaea, which features the Prinnies, penguin characters that work the phrase “dood” into every conversation. It’s a little odd for some, but these quirks are charming and totally harmless for longtime fans of NIS.
For comparison, NIS America recently hosted a big showcase last September, which revealed four key titles that could be expected this year. This included everything from the bizarre Monster Menu: The Scavenger’s Cookbook to GrimGrimoire OnceMore.
So, the 30th anniversary livestream should be expected to at least match that volume of content. However, “new” game announcements may not necessarily imply new titles, and instead important updates regarding 2023 releases. It might also refer to ports, such as NIS titles that haven’t gone West yet, like GrimGrimoire OnceMore.
The four titles in last September’s showcase also didn’t have any concrete release dates yet, apart from a couple of Spring 2023 windows. So, hopefully there’ll be some launch dates next week.
But it would certainly be even better to find out about all-new titles, including sequels to some of NIS’ popular franchises. After all, it is a 30th anniversary livestream, so there should be a little more than usual. NIS America hasn’t released a trailer for the event yet, and there’s still time, but it seems they want to keep things spoiler-free.
