Transfer news LIVE! Chelsea FC make Cucurella bid; Tottenham want Zalewski; Patino to leave Arsenal; rumours

Arsenal, Chelsea and Tottenham are all out to bag major deals in the final month of the summer transfer window. Having all secured some big-name players already, the likes of Marc Cucurella, Frenkie de Jong, Youri Tielemans and Nicolo Zaniolo are the latest potential signings being discussed.

All three teams are looking at Leicester for potential market inspiration with Wesley Fofana a Chelsea target as Thomas Tuchel looks to sort out his defence after a number of setbacks. The Blues have submitted a fresh bid for Brighton’s Cucurella worth more than £50million, while Southampton’s Kyle Walker-Peters is also now a target. In a £20m surprise move, Chelsea confirmed an agreement for Aston Villa wonderkid Carney Chukwuemeka tonight, while they have also welcomed goalkeeper Gabriel Slonina.

In north London, Foxes playmaker Tielemans remains a target for Arsenal, who are set to loan Hale End wonderkid Charlie Patino to Blackpool. Lucas Paqueta and Cody Gakpo are also still on Mikel Arteta’s shortlist. Tottenham, meanwhile, are linked with James Maddison, with Zaniolo’s Roma team-mate Nicola Zalewski also in the frame. Chelsea make £50m Marc Cucurella bid

A major update on the Chelsea transfer front now.

Fabrizio Romano is reporting that the Blues have tonight tabled an official offer for Brighton’s Marc Cucurella worth in excess of £50m.

Chelsea have yet to receive a reponse to that bid but are said to be confident of an agreement, with the player pushing hard for the move.

Romano adds that Levi Colwill to Brighton has also been discussed as a separate deal.

Tottenham make contact over Roma’s Zalewski

Tottenham have reportedly been in pursuit of a Roma winger not named Nicolo Zaniolo.

Instead it’s Nicola Zalewski that seems to be of interest to Spurs, who have been heavily linked with his Italian team-mate over recent weeks.

Corriere Dello Sport report that both Tottenham and Paris Saint-Germain have lodged enquiries with the player’s camp, with Antonio Conte particularly keen on a deal for Zalewski.

However, Roma and Jose Mourinho appear to have no desire to sell the 20-year-old Polish international.

Arsenal wonderkid Patino set for loan exit

Staying with Arsenal for a moment, Charlie Patino is reportedly on his way out of the club on loan.

The 18-year-old midfielder has long since been hailed as the next big thing at Hale End, making two senior appearances under Mikel Arteta in the cup competitions last term and scoring on his first-team debut against Sunderland.

Now he’s set for a switch to the Championship, with Jeorge Bird and Fabrizio Romano reporting that Patino will join Michael Appleton’s Blackpool for the remainder of the 2022/23 campaign.

Leno: It’s been a pleasure to be at Arsenal

A message for Arsenal supporters from Bernd Leno…

“Hey Arsenal fans, it’s time to move on for me,” he tweeted. “It’s been a pleasure to be part of this great football club for 4 amazing years.

“Thank you very much for your support. Also a big thank you to my team mates and the staff behind the team. I‘m looking forward to seeing you soon!”

Arsenal pay tribute to ‘model professional’ Leno

“It feels amazing to finally be here,” Leno told FFCtv. “I can’t wait to join the team, to train and play with the team.

“I’m relieved that everything is done. I’m just happy to be here. It took a little bit of time but in the end we made it, and that’s the most important thing.”

Fulham chief Tony Khan added: “Bernd Leno is the goalkeeper whom we have pursued steadfastly throughout this transfer window, and we’re very excited that we’ve reached a transfer agreement and he’s now fully committed to Fulham!

“He has played at the highest level, and he’ll bring this experience and his leadership to our team. He’ll be a great addition to Marco’s squad, who are all excited for the season ahead!”

Meanwhile, Arsenal paid tribute to the departing goalkeeper, calling him a “model professional” and “credit to the club”.

“We thank you Bernd for your contribution to the club during your four years with us,” the Gunners said.

“Everyone at Arsenal wishes Bernd and his family all the very best in their new chapter.”

Done deal! Fulham sign Arsenal’s Leno

There we have it, confirmation as expected of Bernd Leno’s move from Arsenal to Fulham.

As explained by Standard Sport earlier this evening, the deal could be worth up to £8million, with £3m up front and a further £1m based on Premier League appearances.

Arsenal would receive a further £2m if Fulham manage to avoid relegation this season, and an additional £2m if they can do the same again in 2023/24.

Leno has signed a three-year contract at Craven Cottage, with Fulham retaining the option for a further 12 months beyond that.

Slonina delighted to join ‘best side in London’ Chelsea

It’s fair to say that Gabriel Slonina is pleased about joining Chelsea, whom he calls the “best side in London”.

“Honoured to join such a massive club with so much history,” he tweeted.

“It’s a privilege to wear the badge of the best side in London. Thank you to all the fans for the warm welcome. Can’t wait to get started.”

He added: “Thank you to everyone at the club for making a childhood dream come true & thank you to the fans for an amazing warm welcome. The hard work starts now.”

Done deal! Chelsea sign Gabriel Slonina

It’s all going on at Chelsea this evening!

After confirming their agreement with Aston Villa for Carney Chukwuemeka, the Blues have now announced another arrival.

Unlike Chukwuemeka, this one had been expected for some time, with teenage goalkeeper Gabriel Slonina completing his £12m switch to Stamford Bridge.

The American, 18, will return to Major League Soccer outfit Chicago Fire on loan for the remainder of the MLS season before joining up with Chelsea at the start of 2023.

He has signed a six-year contract until 2028.

Huddlestone joins Man United academy in player-coach role

Tom Huddlestone has now officially joined Manchester United.

The former Tottenham, Derby and Hull midfielder, 35, has joined United’s academy in a player-coach capacity.

He takes over the hybrid role performed by Paul McShane last year, with David Hughes also joining as professional development phase coach.

Huddlestone will have to pass a medical in order to play for United’s Under-21s side as one of five permitted over-age outfield players in Premier League 2 and the EFL Trophy.

The BBC report that he is not expected to play as much as McShane did last term.
