Wincher SEO Rank Tracker Review – Pros n Cons

Intrigued by the name, I searched if Wincher means anything, because it came across as an unusual name for SEO software.

For those of you who have stumbled across this article while looking for an SEO tool, we are reviewing the SEO software Wincher today.

Wincher is a tool or machine that pulls up something, or hauls something, or hoists it.

Good selection of name folks!

Let’s now review Wincher in detail and see if it really has the potential to pull up and hoist your website to the top of search engine ranking.

User Interface

Before we focus on the features and the how-tos of getting started, let us take a look at the UI and ease of use of Wincher.

UI and navigation form a major part of any software that is meant to be used on a regular basis. Very often, a piece of software is rejected because of bad interface design or difficult navigation.

The user interface of Wincher looks neat. The navigation is good, but not intuitive enough.

For example, in the keyword suggestion page, when keywords are selected, the add icon which appears pretty down below can get highlighted once keywords are selected. That way, you do not have to look around to find the button, it is pretty small in size already. In mobile view, navigation is better.

Getting Started in Wincher – the process

getting started in wincher

It is easy to get started with Wincher. You take one of their plans or the free trial, sign up, get your email verified, and log in. The next step is to add your website.

After you add your website, you need to add your keywords, and you’re done!

You can always keep adding more websites and their respective keywords within what your chosen Wincher plan allows.

Adding a website in Wincher

getting-started-in-wincher

You can add up to 10 websites in the Starter plan and unlimited websites in the Business and Enterprise plans.

When adding a website, you can choose your country-specific search engine. The default search engine is google.com.

Once you add a website, the dashboard for that particular website opens up. On the left is the menu containing the following menu options :

  • Keywords
  • Pages
  • Groups
  • Keyword Research
  • Competitors
  • Reports
  • Annotations
  • Notifications

On the right-hand panel, you will find a call-to-action button to add keywords for that website.

Once you click on Add keywords, a pop-up page for adding keywords opens up. Once you provide the keywords, Wincher starts tracking the progress of the keywords for that website.

A website dashboard with keywords tracked and assessed looks like this :

Dashboard Features of Wincher

After you have added a website, Wincher pulls up data about the website, and it is evident from the logo that can be seen at the top left-most corner of the website dashboard.

Keywords

By default, the first menu option in the dashboard – Keywords – is selected for every website. You will find the following on the Keywords page.

Desktop and mobile keywords tracker

desktop-mobile-keyword-tracking

Right next to the name of the website, you will find two icons that stand for desktop tracking and mobile device tracking.

By default, the tracking for the desktop version is selected. If you want to track keywords for mobile devices, you have to go a further step and enable the tracking for mobile devices.

This feature is a well-thought-out one, as tracking for desktop and mobile devices is different, and it might be good to see how your website pages and keywords are performing for mobile devices.

However, ideally, the mobile tracking should have been enabled by default – not needing another step to it.

Filters

Right after the desktop and mobile device tracking icons, you will find a host of filters related to data display, and a search bar specific for that website. The filters are for :

Date

You can select a date range for displaying the keywords tracking data. The preset date ranges are One month, Three months, Six months, One year and Since added.

You can also custom select a date range from the calendar available from the dropdown.

Search

You can use the search bar for searching for keywords and pages specific to that website. This functionality comes in handy if you have a lot of keywords and pages. It saves time to search for and quickly find what you are looking for.

Groups

You can group your keywords. Any groups you form will show up in the dropdown under the Groups filter.

Position

You can check the position of your keywords by using the drag bar that is set between 1 – 101 ranking i.e for the first 10 pages of google search. You can further filter with the options – Improved, Declined and Unchanged.

This feature is helpful to track the position changes and fix what’s going down in the result pages.

Traffic

Traffic is the CTR rate and is shown as the number of estimated clicks. The drag button features 1 – 121 clicks. Like in the Position filter, you can filter using the options – Improved, Declined and Unchanged.

Volume

Volume refers to the number of searches made for the keywords that month. The volume is specific to the search engine you choose i.e your country-specific search engine or global google.com.

The drag bar for volume ranges between 2400 – 301000.

Features

‘Features’ is an interesting filter whereby you can check what sections or pieces of information appeared in the search engine result pages for that particular keyword from that particular website.

You can further select the following filters from Features – FAQ, Featured Snippet, Images, Paid Result, People also ask, Recipes, Shopping, Site link, Top stories.

To explain with an example, if you filter by images, the filtered result will show keywords that have ranked with images.

Brief summary of the keywords

Right below the filters options, there is a brief summary of the keywords in terms of

  • Position changes
  • Average positions (for all keywords)
  • Traffic
  • First Positions

Each of these summary heads has a figure, and an up/down indicator with the value of change (in figures like 29.5, 0, etc).

This section is a good answer to a very important question – is there any progress on the efforts I am putting into the optimization of my website? This section very quickly answers this question in a simple yes or no. The up/down indicators are helpful too.

Detailed summary of each keyword

Below the at-a-glance summary, you will find a detailed summary of each keyword in terms of Features, Position, Traffic, Volume and link of Best Page. You will also find at the rightmost section the time the data was last pulled up.

Pages

The Pages page has the information about the Best pages that Wincher has pulled up from Google, based on the keywords you provide.

The Pages data is the same as that of the keyword data.

For example, one of the keywords I chose for BforBloggers is Snagit 2021 (check out this amazing screen-capture + recorder) if you haven’t already).

Based on the keyword, it pulled up the best page – the SnagIt 2021 blogpost page associated with the ‘Snagit 2021’ keyword. In the pages section, I see the same data for the blog post page as I found in the Keywords page for the “Snagit 2021” keyword.

Wincher Pages

This feature is repetitive. But might be useful for someone who is keen to find out how specifically how pages are ranking.

However, again, not a super intuitive feature from Wincher, because based on some of the broad keywords I provided for the BforBloggers website, it should have ideally pulled up all pages that are doing well, And I know some really are doing pretty well.

Instead, Wincher showed me only the pages that are associated with the keywords I provided.

Am I being too ambitious here, asking for an SEO tool to show me the pages that are doing well, and the ones that are doing not so well? Perhaps you show me data of only the first 10/15 pages of SERPs, based on the broad key terms I provided? I don’t think I’m asking too much here.

Groups

Wincher Groups

Grouping is a cool feature. Especially if your website caters to different services, you can group the keywords under group names, and see the groups outdo each other in competition. It’s like you have a game of your own with your own keywords, seeing each group compete with the others, thanks to all the hard work you do for making them rank.

You can measure a group’s performance with the following metrics that appear: Keywords, traffic, average position, position 1, position 2-3, position, 3-10, position 11-30.

Keyword Research

Not one of the strongest parts of Wincher, the Keywords Research is a decent tool that will show results if you put in the effort.

Suggestions

The suggestions provided are good, based probably on the keywords already provided, though I couldn’t be sure of the algorithm used to show up suggestions. My confusion arises from the fact that Wincher showed me suggestions for keywords that do not have a direct relation to the key terms I provided.

Related Keywords

Next comes the Related Keywords section. When you type in a seed keyword, a list of related keywords is pulled up. If your website has any of the related keywords, the position of the keyword will show up too.

Search Console

You can link up your Google Search through this option.

Competitors

The Competitor section lets you add competitors and shows up their data and compares the same with yours. The metrics for the comparison are – Traffic, Average position, Position 1, Position 2-3, Position 4 – 10, Position 11 – 30.

The Competitor page also has the data on keywords competition. The ranks of the keywords you have provided are measured with the rank they have for the competitor’s site.

Reports

You can create custom reports for your websites or your clients’ websites through the Create Report button. You can choose to show as little or as much in your reports, create custom branding, and preview the pdf format of the report before creating it.

There is also a section for including a note about the SEO report.

Wincher Reports

You can then directly put the email address to whom the report would be sent. You can also edit the report, download it in CSV or excel format or remove it completely.

Reports are integral to tracking the growth of your SEO activities over a period of time.

Annotations

Annotations are notes on strategy changes or changes to your website. Annotations show up in the detailed section of keywords and pages.

You can create annotations for a future or previous date. You can also relate a keyword to a particular annotation.

Annotations Wincher

Notifications

The Notifications page shows all the notifications you have for that website.

Other Features

Projects

You can group your websites into projects and see organized data for sets of websites in one dashboard.

When you group websites under a project, it pulls up the average position, traffic, total number of websites, and total number of keywords for the group. You can also add team members to check the activity of the project.

This can be a helpful feature for SEO agencies. You can delegate different projects to different users and have an aggregated view for similar kinds of websites.

Consolidated Overview

The overview dashboard of Wincher is a beautiful one. Here’s how it looks :

Verdict

With Wincher 2.0 just out, it is expected that the tool will undergo more transformation in the coming years and versions.

With mid-range pricing and tough competition from seasoned optimization tools, I think Wincher has to offer more value.

For example, the Keywords suggestion can be made sharper, by bringing in more suggestions of real-time keywords used by people. The way the reports look can be made better, more customizable, and sent in a better format.

Final words – Wincher is good but can be better.
